Before you leave, it’s a good idea to go through a few safety tips. So that you’re prepared for whatever the world throws at you.

While it won’t ensure you a safe and trouble-free trip. It will definitely make it more likely that you avoid the ones you can avoid. Here is a handful of excellent safety tips for solo travellers to make you feel a bit more confident about your trip.

Always tell people at home where you’re staying

It may seem like a bit of obvious advice, but many solo travelers tend to go from place to place. Informing their family about every hotel they’re staying at may seem a bit tedious. It’s still very important that you do this, though, and by keeping them up to date you’re also helping to calm their nerves a bit.

It can, after all, be nerve-wracking to have someone you care about being out and about in the world on their own. Make it a bit easier for them to cope. Also, for yourself to stay safe. Giving them a list with the numbers to where you’re planning on staying.

If something should happen to you. They will have the details for the place where you last stayed instead of the area you were in a week ago. Provide your loved ones with your travel plans. The names of the hotels, and your itinerary, in general, and they’ll be able to look after you while you’re away.

Remember your medical insurance as well. Especially if you’re going to a far-off place where medical access is hard to come by. Check out these air ambulance services as well and make sure that your insurance is comprehensive enough to cover it.

Look smart and act smart

Finally, you should brush up on your street skills before heading out. Dress smart, act smart, and pretend like you belong even if you’re a bit lost. It’s better to head into a shop and ask for directions than to allow a stranger to approach you and help you out.

You never know if the stranger has been keeping an eye on you while you’ve been trying to find your way to the subway.

This is particularly true when it comes to navigating those foreign ATMs. Ask for help in a bank rather than accepting help from someone random nearby the ATM and keep in mind that it’s better to be a bit too skeptical rather than being too nice.

You don’t want to be robbed, after all, and a bit of skepticism will at least give you more protection than nothing at all.
