Where To Look For Genuine "Hair-spiration"

January 24, 2020

When it comes to how you wear your hair, you’ve got a lot of options. And when we say A LOT, we mean it. Never before in human history have women had so many resources they can use to find beautiful hairstyles. Pinterest, Instagram, and a host of other services make it easy to find hairstyles with practically every tag you can imagine. You’re utterly spoiled for choice – too spoiled for choice if you ask some!

The trick is nailing your “hair-spiration” method. Don’t just wade into the thousands of pictures online, hoping that you’ll find something that speaks to you. Instead, look for ways to refine your search and make a commitment to a particular class of styles before you begin.

Typing in something like “wedding hair,” for instance, is probably too vague. Just think of the variety of wedding hairstyles that brides and their guests can choose. It’s much better to add a description where possible to narrow down your search.

Here are some examples:

  • Loose, curly bridal hair
  • Wavy bridal weave
  • Updo wedding hair
  • Sleek wedding hair

You get the picture. You’re trying to narrow down your search in a way that will tell all these social media and picture-hosting sites what you’re looking for.

Look For Multiple Images Of The Same Hair-do

The problem with most mainstream picture sites is that people don’t upload images of their hair to help other women emulate their style. Instead, it’s more about sharing the idea.

For those, however, who do want to modify their style, this is a problem. Just looking at a photo from the front or the side doesn’t tell you everything you need to know about the style. Fortunately, different angles are available at Hair.Plus – a kind of Instagram for hair. The idea of the app is to provide you and your stylists with all the images that needed to replicate the style by giving away critical details for both cut and support.

Choose Something With “Staying Power”

While images of hairstyles you find online often look fabulous, they’re usually just for the camera. A strong gust of wind can whip them out of shape, leaving you with a complete mess.

If you’re looking for inspiration for your hair, be sure that you choose something that has genuine staying power – either a style that you hold up with clips or bands or something that will hang naturally without much effort. Hairspray-induced styles can look great, but they’re for the camera, not the everyday.

Remember; Styles You See Online Are Heavily Edited

If you think that your hair will have the contrast and the texture of the images that you see on the web, then think again. Not only do many of the models in the photos have surprisingly thick hair, but most add filters and effects afterward to make it stand out more. The likelihood of you being able to replicate what you see in the image, therefore, is small.

Genuine hair inspiration, therefore, can sometimes be challenging to find.
